National Park Residency Programs
An official stint as an Artist-in-Residence (A-I-R) in a National Park can be a valuable experience and significant accomplishment for the right artist. It provides an opportunity for sustained exploration and dialogue with one of America’s great landscapes.
This list contains information on officially-sanctioned National Park Residency Programs (last updated in February 2009). Information at www.NPS.gov may not reflect all of the corrected information below. Check with individual programs for application fees and requirements. Some programs require that you donate a piece of artwork, or that you give public presentations during your residency. Not all sites are handicap accessible, many do not allow pets, and a few allow spouses or children to accompany you.
For more information about National Park Residency Programs for artists, refer to "Landing a Residency in a National Park" by Gregory W. Frux in the March 2009 issue of Art Calendar magazine.
